Our vision was shaped by the people and organisations we want to help most

Vision Co-design

To ensure that we created something that recognises the needs and realities of the environmental, economic, health and social spheres we wanted to impact, we wanted to be collaborative from the off, working with others to build towards a Youth Environmental Service Pilot.

This meant bringing together two groups. The first was of leaders from over 20 organisations covering a range of different sectors, with both local and national remits. The second included passionate youth environmental activists. as part of our Youth Advisory Committee.

They shared perspectives and contexts to help deepen our understanding of the problem and strengthen our plans for solving it.

YES Double Diamond Approach

Overview of our approach, inspired by the Design Council’s updated double diamond.

Loosely following the ‘double diamond’ framework (above), we wanted to understand the challenges facing young people in accessing meaningful environmental work, and the issues for environmental organisations, who want to attract, recruit and support the next generation of star environmentalists.

We agreed a common mission for addressing these challenges, expanding into a vision for how that might look, and the framework required to enable it as a foundation for a pilot programme in 2022.
